Hey guys,
So I'm here for a chunk of the summer working at the Amherst Survival Center and living in Newport with Amina and Rebecca. I love Amherst in the summer, partly because it's really nice to not have any homework. Mostly we’ve watched trash TV and movies so far. Becs and I went and threw on the town green for a little bit and an adorable toddler came to play with us. I can only hope my future children will show such enthusiasm for Ultimate because I don't want to be a pushy not-quite-soccer mom, hmm. I've been trying to teach myself survival Turkish. (The flash-cards are more impressive than what I've retained at this point.) And there's a woman at work who reminds me a little too much of my crazy great grandmother, so I've been forced to use my non-existent Spanish as well. "No mija, wrong"… oops. I also found one of the town libraries. It looks like a Disney cottage but it has weird hours and I haven't gone in yet. I hope all of your summers are going well and that your days are not angst-ridden, but please do spill your stories. I know we would all love to hear from you.
Love From,
Nicole
Are you working with Sam Feldman?! I just saw him last night at this event in Boston for Amherst students/interns/alumni in the area and got really excited because he was just abroad, but it was sad because I was sneaking out of the event early because all the food was gone AND Ken Koopmans had just gotten up to speak and had started off by asking every single person (about 75??) to introduce themselves and say what they're doing for the summer...
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they do that at EVERY Amherst event. Although, once it came in useful when I met this awesome girl who works for the State department and flies in on helicopter drug missions in Colombia to break up the cartels. Not that that's how she introduced herself, but I read between the lines, you know.
ReplyDeletewait...read between the lines how?- she said, "hi, i'm so-and-so" and you took that to mean, "i am a BAMF who break up cartels?"
ReplyDeleteBecause that's what i'm imagining
I am working with Sam! and he said that he saw you for a second in Boston. I think it's really just Ken that causes trouble like that because i went to one in New York and we didn't all get up one by one. Part of the fun of it is trying to figure it out on your own. Although I've never met anyone who busts up drug cartels for a living. Or maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention...
